About

The Golden LEAF Biomanufacturing Training and Education Center (BTEC) is a unique, cross-disciplinary instructional center that provides educational and training opportunities to develop skilled professionals for the biomanufacturing industry. It also provides bioprocess development and analytical services to a wide range of customers from academia and industry.

Undergraduates, graduate students, and working professionals come to the Biomanufacturing Training & Education Center (BTEC) for hands-on training with the latest biomanufacturing technologies in its 77,000-square-foot facilities on NC State University’s campus.

With pilot-scale, simulated-GMP labs, BTEC helps meet the state’s need for talent.

During 2021–2022, BTEC

  • Enrolled 450+ NC State students in BTEC courses; graduated 83 students with an undergraduate minor, and 11 with professional science master’s degrees
  • Provided 23 open enrollment and customized short courses and numerous online offerings to 868 industry professionals (5,400+ participants since 2009)
  • Completed 15 bioprocess and analytical services projects (200+ projects since 2009)
  • Progress made on a $27M grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation in developing new courses and research programs in topics
